I once emptied my closet,
piece by piece.

“I don’t wear this anymore.”
“I don’t need this.”
And one by one,
I placed them into a waiting bag.

The room grew lighter.
The shelves breathed.
But my heart
remained strangely still.

Later, I understood.

I had been letting go —
but I hadn’t truly chosen.

It was someone else’s measure.
Someone else’s “That’s a waste.”
Someone else’s “That doesn’t suit you.”

And somewhere along those lines,
I had released things
that still held a quiet warmth.

Things I liked
just a little.
Things that felt like home.

Things I couldn’t explain,
yet wanted near.

Perhaps decluttering
is not about less.

Perhaps it is about listening —
to the faint pull inside
that says,
“Keep this.”
“Let this go.”

It takes time.
It takes doubt.
But only what I choose
with my own hands
settles gently
into my life.

Objects.
Plans.
Even people.
Maybe they are all the same.

What stays
should feel
like mine.
