Every now and then,
my dog walks with one leg lifted.
Just a moment.

But in that moment,
she seems a little quieter than usual.
And something stirs in my chest.
Softly.

The vet called it patella luxation.

Not life-threatening,
but one day,
she might no longer walk with ease.

She loves to walk.
She loves to run.
She lives like the wind—
free and light and full of joy.

And that way she moves,
it’s so achingly lovely
I can hardly stand it.

So I chose surgery.
She’s small.
The thought of anesthesia
still scares me.

But more than that,
I want her to keep moving
how she wants to.

To stay just as she is—
this wild, bright, beautiful creature.

There’s only so much I can do.

But I want to protect
her joy,
her lightness,
her freedom—
as much as I can.

The day is coming soon.

And I’m waiting,
quietly,
for the moment she runs again.
